One of only 275 examples ever to be produced worldwide, the Mercedes-AMG ONE is a limited-production hybrid sports car manufactured by Mercedes-AMG, featuring Formula One-derived technology.
Deemed as one of the most challenging car set-up exercises ever undertaken by any manufacturer, Mercedes-AMG’s ambition was to bring Formula One technology to the road, making its nomenclature ‘ONE’ very fitting indeed.
Unveiled at the 2017 International Motor Show in Germany by the then three-time F1 World Champion and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, and head of Mercedes-Benz, Dieter Zetsche. However, it would take the team a further five years of extensive engineering and development before unveiling the production version in June 2022.
It features a host of Formula One technology, including the 1.6-litre V6 engine from the 2015 Mercedes F1 car, the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive with a hybrid-driven rear axle, and an electrically driven front axle with torque vectoring. It can also operate in electric-only mode.
Its incredible performance boasts a combined 1,049 bhp, with the front axle electric motors capable of reaching up to 50,000 rpm individually. Selective torque distribution allows for extra-high levels of vehicle dynamics. This, combined with the Race Start function and the elimination of turbo lag, enables the ONE to accelerate from 0-124 mph in 7.0 seconds, 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 219 mph. It broke its own Nürburgring lap record with a time of 6:29.090, making it the first production car at that time to dip below 6:30, solidifying its position as the fastest production car on the track.
It also possesses spectacular aerodynamics, with a unique balance between maximum drive and actively optimised aerodynamics for greater contact pressure. Moveable slats were developed for the front wheelhouses, along with a two-part extendable rear wing and active flaps on the front diffuser, which can be adjusted to suit the driver’s wishes and chosen driving programme for optimal racing conditions.
It has an iconic longitudinal fin, aerodynamically optimised 10-spoke wheels in forged aluminium and NACA openings for cooling channels that further enhance performance.
All 275 clients of the AMG ONE could choose between exterior paint options of Magno, Metallic, STAR, or WAVE. The interior is fitted with AMG Motorsport bucket seats integrated into its carbon monocoque, a Formula 1-style steering wheel with knobs for driving programmes providing perfect handling and displays that offer the driver an ideal view for navigating the perfect curve.
Chassis 000024 is offered direct from a Formula One World Champion and has covered just 35 km from new.
Specified with optional extras that include special paintwork in Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Satin Silver, exclusive Nappa Magma Grey with microfibre Dinamica black inserts, contrast stitching in silver, and unique stitched headrests as opposed to the standard AMG logo. This example also benefits from additional special features, such as the elimination of the E-Performance lettering on the left and right sides, 19” and 20” AMG high-performance 9-spoke magnesium wheels that are aerodynamically optimised with carbon inserts, special paintwork brake callipers in silver with a AMG logo in black, 6-point harnesses approved exclusively for track use, and an AMG indoor car cover.
Currently located, registered and taxes paid in Switzerland and offered complete with all of its factory accessories spare key, battery conditioner and history file.
A car of our time an engineering feat that most probably could have only have been achieved by Mercedes-AMG and will be very revered in the years to come.
