Chassis 3589 GT is one of only eight right-hand drive 250 GTOs ever built. It was delivered new via Maranello Concessionaires to Tommy Sopwith’s Equipe Endeavour team in April 1962 and it was specified from the factory in Dark Blue with Red cloth and leather seats. Following delivery, the car was immediately raced at Goodwood by Mike Parkes in the Sussex Trophy where he finished 2nd overall and 1st in the GT class.
The car dominated the 1962 season in the hands of Mike Parkes, never finishing off the podium with four overall wins, two 1st in class finishes and a 3rd place, along with setting a number of lap records and beating many other 250 GTOs in the process.
It was famously donated in 1964 by the second owner to the Victoria Texas High School where it remained until 1971, at which time it was sold to a gentleman in Ohio who would subsequently leave it on a trailer at the rear of his house for 15 years. In the late 1980s, it was sold to the prolific Swiss based Ferrari collector, Engelbert Stieger who carried out a total restoration which included removing the original body and replacing it with a new one fabricated in Switzerland
The car remained in that same ownership for over 33 years before we purchased the car and immeditately sent it and its original body to Ferrari Classiche for a full restoration, at which time the original body was reunited to the car.
Extensive research was carried out to ensure the restoration was totally period correct in every detail and the car today retains its original chassis, body, engine and gearbox, as confirmed by its Ferrari ‘Red Book’ Classiche certification.
Upon completion of the restoration, the car was taken to the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where it was awarded Best in Class.
