Of all the fabulous events that we have been to this year, the highlight has to be our Ferrari 275 Tuscany Tour. It took place between the 3rd and the 7th June and brought together 18 275s of all different types. There were GTSs, both short and long nose GTBs including an alloy bodied example, GTB/4s and a very special GTB/C.
This was the second event organised by Tom Hartley Jnr and his good friend and client, Ian Poulter. Following the success of their inaugural tour in 2019, which was dedicated to the 288 GTO, there were big expectations for this year’s offering.
The accommodation for the event was the stunning Four Seasons in Florence and we opened proceedings with a welcome dinner in the gardens. It gave the participants a chance to get to know each other and discuss all things 275 before the first day of driving on the Saturday.
Early on the Saturday morning the guests were awake and eager to take their cars out onto the beautiful Tuscan roads. To facilitate the driving out of Florence, there were police escorts who did a fantastic job of creating a clear way out of the city, although the glorious sight and sound of 18 275s thundering past certainly helped stop the traffic.
The driving on the Saturday took in the very best that the Chianti region had to offer. The first stop of the day was at the beautiful Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore for a tour of the monastery followed by a coffee and some pastries. The cars then wound their way through the Tuscan countryside to lunch which was at Dario Cecchini’s, the internationally acclaimed butcher.
By the afternoon temperatures had soared to close to 40 degrees Celsius and both the cars and their owners were starting to feel the heat. After a rather warm drive back to Florence, the 275s were parked up and the guests got ready for an evening at the renowned Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery for a private tour with wine tasting and a beautiful al fresco dinner overlooking their vineyards.
For the Sunday, the driving took the cars to Pisa where they were parked in the heart of the city with lunch overlooking the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Dinner that evening was held in the beautiful Palazzo Gondi in the centre of Florence. It started with a drinks reception on the terrace overlooking the Duomo with dinner itself being held in the Palazzo’s ballroom.
While the driving had been spectacular throughout the tour, we certainly saved the best until the last day. On the Monday the cars were released into the hills to experience some of the roads of the old Mugello circuit and take on the famous Giogo and Sambuca passes, culminating in a coffee stop at the stunning Ricci family estate. A short drive later and the cars arrived at the Medieval Palazzo dei Vicari for lunch.
To celebrate the end of a truly special event, the final dinner was held in one of Florence’s most famous buildings, Palazzo Vecchio. The guests were given a tour before being taken to a beautifully frescoed room for dinner. The evening closed with a speech by Tom and Ian, summarising the fantastic events of the past few days.
The tour brought together a wonderful group of cars and people, both existing clients and some new faces too. It is now time to start planning our next one!
