In the early evening of February 12th 1957, a fire broke out at Jaguar’s Browns Lane factory destroying nine D-type’s that were planned to be converted to the road-going Jaguar XKSS. In 2016 Jaguar Classic announced that they would build those nine cars and build them to the exact 1957 specification, which included each car being designated their period correct XKSS chassis number. The nine cars were immediately snapped up by individuals in all four corners of the globe and the car we present here today is only the third example ever to be offered for resale.
This particular example is car number 4 and was specified in one of the most desirable colour combinations and delivered new to its North American owner where it resided alongside his original XKSS along with other great Jaguar’s including a D-type.
Dubbed the ‘original supercar’, the XKSS was introduced by Jaguar in 1957 as a road-going conversion of the Le Mans-winning D-type racing car and is today one of the most highly sought-after cars of all-time.
