The 3.0 CSL is considered BMW’s first M model. Developed at their then newly opened Motorsport division which was headed by Jochen Neerpasch, a notable German racing driver and winner of the famous 1968 24 Hours of Daytona. His focus for the development of the car was to compete in the European Touring Car Championship, making the 3.0 CSL a road car designed for racing.

Only 1,039 3.0 CSLs were produced, of which 500 were allocated to the UK market. Our particular example was manufactured on the 30th December 1972, commissioned in Polaris Silver Metallic paint and delivered to BMW Concessionaires GB Ltd on the 16th January 1973.

Acquired by the previous keeper in February 1989 as a ‘barn find’, it remained in this condition for some twenty years, before a complete body and mechanical restoration by one of Europe’s most highly respected BMW Classic restoration specialists was undertaken.

Very few examples benefit from the comprehensive restoration this particular car has had. Most are re-painted, re-trimmed and serviced yet are described as restored, this car should certainly not be confused with any of those.
